Some of the largest businesses in the world today started off as small start-ups with humble beginnings. One such story is that of the Australian company Nepean, which is the market leader for a range of businesses across the world. Now based in Smeaton Grange, the company is growing from strength to strength, and expanding their operations in many different countries.

Humble Origins

When the company was first started by Mr. David Fuller, as Nepean Engineering in the year 1974, their main process was tool making. Over the years, their aim has always been to focus on customers, get local support, employ passionate employees, empower managers to get things done in the most efficient way, and to lead the industry in engineering. The company has grown from a small establishment to a massive organization that today employs over 1100 people all over the world. Nepean has successfully acquired and is continuing to maintain various businesses that are complimentary to the core engineering capabilities.

Growing in Strength

David Fuller’s son Miles Fuller joined the company in 1994 and is responsible for the start-up venture Vehicle Inspection Systems. After VIS became a success in Australia, Miles took it to the United States and Canada. VIS Inc. soon became the undisputed market leader in suspension, brake, and steering testing equipment in North America for heavy vehicles. Miles also introduced a patented, fully robotic solution for polishing wheels and rims, called the VIS-Polish. It is now the most sought after equipment for polishing wheels of heavy vehicles in the US, Australia, and New Zealand. In a bid to expand its international dominance, Nepean has acquired two businesses in Finland that manufacture pulleys, frames, rollers, and idlers for conveyor systems. According to Nepean CEO, Miles, this gives the company a broad range of advanced technology for expanding operations.
